The same goes for Sapphire and SAXEM, their connection is obvious as they come from the same Hublot lineage. The Nyon Manufacture is credited with bringing both materials into the 21st century and becoming iconic. Even so, their profiles are quite different. Creating unprecedented SAXEM shadows was a challenging process. Hublot has been working on this journey since it was first launched in 2019 with the Big Bang MP-11. Since then, the watchmaker has developed two colors: yellow and emerald green. While as strong as sapphire, it has a different luster: brighter. The green SAXEM of the new Big Bang UNICO highlights many of these innovations. The 42mm case is sturdy and durable. It packs all the features of SAXEM into a dense, compact diameter. The material does not receive light but creates the illusion of emitting light. Green SAXEM diffuses into the minimal outlines of the case and bezel, which are inlaid with six of Hublot’s signature titanium H-shaped screws. Hublot’s patented “one-touch” system for its interchangeable straps is located at 12 and 6 o’clock.
For the movement, Hublot chose another self-made design: UNICO 2 movement, a new generation flyback chronograph HUB1280. This is a first since the micro-rotor HUB6035 powered the previous Big Bang SAXEM. Combining advanced technology with robust design, the HUB1280 movement features the iconic column wheel at 6 o’clock, a technical and aesthetic hallmark of UNICO. Another unique feature is the date dial, which is fully visible around the movement, with an aperture located in the center of the 60-minute counter at 3 o'clock.
The movement, crown and its two pushers are treated with black PVD. For the luminous material of the hour markers and hands, Hublot has successfully reproduced the precise hue of green SAXEM.
